Breastfeeding Classes
I offer breastfeeding classes for moms who are expecting and those with children up to one year of age or so. I also offer trainings for doulas in how to help families with breastfeeding. My classes are small, positive, and with lots of very useful information, whether you are breastfeeding or helping others to breastfeed. Bring your questions and go home with lots of tools for success.

Basics Of Breastfeeding For Pregnant Moms

This class is 2 hours long and happens at WomanCare (205 Lilly Rd NE Bldg B, Suite C Olympia, WA 98506) and will include the following topics. Partners are always welcome.
- Your concerns and questions
- Anatomy of the breast and newborns' mouths
- Positioning and latching baby on for nursing
- Breast pumps and returning to work
- A few helpful herbs and remedies for the nursing mama
- What to expect in the first few days and weeks
- How do I know if my baby is getting enough?
- How often should my baby nurse and for how long?
- Sore nipples and engorgement
- In general-enjoy your baby and take care of yourself!
Breastfeeding through the First Year (and Beyond)

If you have a moms' group or a group of friends who would like to arrange for a class, please contact Sarah (minimum of 4 registrants per class).
This class is two hours long and will take place at the office of Candyce Bollinger, counselor and parent educator. I will send directions when you register for a class. This class is perfect for a mom who has established breastfeeding, and whose baby is any age from about one to twelve months old. We will cover the following topics.
- Your concerns and questions
- Overview of baby's development in this period, as it relates to breastfeeding
- Breastfeeding and sleep
- Beginning solid foods, and nutrition and teeth!
- Mom going to work (or out for a date?), and separations in general
- The mobile breast feeder
- Baby's immunity and long-term breast feeding
Breastfeeding for Doulas
Wednesday, March 10, 2010, 7-10 pm; alternate date of Saturday, March 13, 1-4pm in case Sarah has a birth on the 10th.
This class will give doulas basic skills to help moms and babies breastfeed. The course will meet the requirement for doula certification through DONA International. Classes for pregnant and breastfeeding moms cost $15-35 on a sliding scale. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Partners are always welcome. The class for doulas will cost $35-55.
